Shouldn't the new (snazzy and bijou) alloy tank have an earth strap - to protect against Pump/Sender/Wiring problems which may cause the tank to float (!) up to 12V? After all, it is sat on foam strips, and that sort of "heat damage" won't buff out with T-Cut....

And the resultant flames/explosion might sting just a little.

I believe it will be grounded at least through the fuel pump and fuel meter. It may sound unbelievable but it is very hard to ignite fuel, even fuel vapours are hard to ignite unless in pretty specific ratio to air.
I am more worried about the straps. The ends look like P, that when tensioned will tend to straighten out, making the straps longer and move them further away from the tank so it becomes loose.

ALSO THE RESULTS OF FIRE WOULD REQUIRE A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF "LINISHING" AND UNTOLD POTS OF TEA AND BISQUITS.....BUT THE PUMP IS GROUNDED THRU THE WIRING!

(GROUNDING=EARTH IN THE UK) THEREFORE NOT A VALID COMPLAINT.

BUT WHERE DID NIC GET THE SHINEY BITS FOR THE PETROL TANK CAP???????

The pump will/should have it's own GND separate from the chassis. The sending unit may or may not depending on which instruments Nik uses. Both pump and sender will likely be isolated from the tank at least partly by the seals used on the covers.  Either way I would recommend a dedicated GND for the tank if only to safely dissipate static electric charges. I would also tie the spiffy new filler cap to the tank with another strap.

We haven't got to wiring yet, but it's coming up soon so all this will be addressed as you'd expect!
