Hi guys Im Phil, just came out of my apprenticeship to become a mechanic. Been following B.O.M since the beginning, I currently own a mini 1000 that's going to get painted this weekend! its had a full frond end panel replacement minus the scuttle.
Currently the car now, the project has taken another turn. Managed to get a 1275 out of a metro for it so out came the 998, in went the 1275 and now im sorting out the little niggly bits. Got the ignition timing to set, clutch free play, trim the wheel arch extension abit more, thermostat housing to sort then its finally finished!

As Mike Brewer once said: "Everybody should own a Mini at some point in their life," and it is absolutely true.
You should make sure the ignition is 100% before checking the carb. Are you using the correct carb for your 1275cc lump? Try doing a compression test and checking your valve clearances.

I am not quite as familiar with the Mini/Metro carb setups as I am with the HS2 carbs on my 1098cc Sprite. However if your symptoms are anything like I have experienced, make certain your oil dash-pot is topped off with oil. The it sounds like your engine might be going lean when you floor it.
Of course as others have said, make certain your static timing is working correctly and then check to see if your vacuum advance is working as well. I found when getting my Sprite tuned up that when I unplugged the vacuum advance it ran much better, it was an indication to me that my static timing was way too far advanced.

Good luck! Your Mini looks nice.
