Well done chaps.
I did spot some bother for you later on. The fuel sender unit "float stick" will stick out of the bottom of the tank when it's empty and it will hit the internal baffle when it's full. :(
I'm sure you'll figure something out. :)

Nick rejected steel as the material for the fuel tank, because he was "unsure of its long term exposure to": Toluene? Toiling? t'oiling??? Toy Ling???? (well known Chinese rally driver)
What was he on about? JOhn

I thought he was talking about Toulene which is sometimes added to fuel to boost octane rating.

The spare wheel may fit in the boot, but it's solid, so may transfer any crush towards the tank.
I doubt anyone's going to want to sit on the rear seat, so just accept that it's for luggage

That supplies the right word, but not why there is problem with toluene and mild steel.
It's not corrosion, so what is it?

John, the mechanical engineer in me kicked in and I had a look at the material safety sheet for toluene (methyl benzene) and I can't work that out either, the recommended material for storage or cladding the storage container is mild steel or cr steel and most definitely not aluminium.
Come on guys, what is the problem you are trying to avoid?
