My bad obsession is the Nissan Z car, specifically the unloved, often mocked, red-headed stepchild of the Nissan Z family, the 84-89 Z31.
#1 1984 Z31 Turbo GLL. I purchased this in 1995 from the 2nd owner and it's been a daily driver (mostly) since.
Datsun-Nisssan show in 2014
Performance mods are conservative:
T3/4 hybrid Turbo
3" exhaust
3" intake with cone filter
port matched intake/exhaust
Greddy Profec-b boost controller
Electric fan
Intercooler was removed for an upgrade that is still in the box.
Purchased some parts to install in the spring (hopefully)
VLSD differential
aluminum driveshaft
aluminum flywheel
performance clutch
Z32 brakes
full poly bushing kit
Tokico 5 way adjustable suspension
and other stuff i've forgotten.
#2 is an 1984 Turbo Anniversary Edition i purchased in 2009. 1 of 5000 produced
Performance mods are uh, stalled. This has a fair amount of rust and has rear quarter damage. It smoked really bad when i brought it home.
From This:
To This:
It's in storage until i get #3 on the road. I started a wire tuck of the factory engine harness, and lost interest about 90% completed.
#3 is a 1988 Turbo Shiro Edition #683 in a limited production of 1002. It spent a few years as a topiary centerpiece in a overgrown backyard before i bought it in 2009.
This is also in storage until #4 is on the road. It also has rear quarter damage and had a blown motor from an 86 turbo that was dodgy af.
It has a 91 VG30 and turbo on deck for installation. It has factory CLSD and stiffer anti sway bars.
Oil capacity is 4.25 quarts, i drained 3 times that amount from the blown motor.
Just gotta install this with some duct tape.
As of 2013, in storage.
#4 is a 1988 Turbo Shiro Edition #820 in a limited production of 1002.
I wasn't looking for another project when this was found under a tarp covered in mildew, but for the price i couldn't pass it up.
It started with a new battery, but smoked like a really smokey thing, so the motor came out, went back in, still smoked, came back out, went back in, now it's not smoking.
Motor went back in:
After few choruses of the Hokey Pokey, rings, bearings, cylinder hone and tears, it went back in again:
It is currently running and i'm finishing up a few things before i can drive it.
Modest performance mods:
T3 turbo (upgrade from stock T25)
3in exhaust
3in intake with cone filter
Greddy profec-b boost controller
E-fan
Tokico 5-way adjustable suspension
full poly bushing kit
Thanks if you made it this far :)

As of yesterday, the collection has been upgraded to 50% legal and running Z31's, as my 88 Shiro #820 passed Oregon DEQ.
Before i tear into the next one, the garage is getting a make-over in preparation for a 4 post lift. Can't go out in a single car garage, gotta go up.

I am not jealous. I do not envy you. Not in the slightest. Who needs a four poster in their life? I mean, really?

On the topic of jackstands...
Finished work on a jack organizer rack for my garage. Built from the finest 1.75" angled scrap from my employer.
Sketchup concept:
There is one other pair of aluminum stands that will go on when they are done holding up the front end of my AE.
This is the end goal: Get my other 2 cars out of storage and optimize storage in the garage to fit a bendpak lift:

Just so you're aware, I'm making free and liberal use of you jack/jackstand rack design and building one for myself.
Thanks!

Excellent! I hope you enjoy and possibly improve upon it.
It really has helped eliminate the clutter and the Jenga-style stack job that they used to be stored in.
