Road or Track?
Permalink

Was having a discussion earlier on another forum (sorry)

And the subject got around to the use of Binky on the road, some people seem to think this is a road car. others think its a rally car. Personally I suspect its a track day car and will never be road legal due to the strict BIVA test it would need to be subjected to.

Am i right? or do you have the family of A VOSA inspector imprisoned in a pit under the workshop as insurance?

It's clearly being built as a road car. Central locking, crazy flip front, power windows etc. Had we been thinking of a track day car, we'd have done it quite differently.

As for BIVA, well, it's still a Mini, just with an engine transplant...

Looking forward to seeing it develop further. Could you show the considerations you make for the test, it would be very interesting to see.

Hi, Its much like you said in the episode 9 of project Binky, when we first time saw the seats you had chosen. I think that same comparison should be used on all parts of the car, making it comfortable on road and a fast track runner.

So I started to do a bit of suggestions listing "NOTE" you do not have to make these if you disagree with my thoughts, have better alternatives... or something even better  smile

The turbo support: a good balanced ecu, or a Bleed valve, if possible for the configuration.

The exhaust: a manually operated or automatic opening exhaust similar to Volkswagen Golf.  Low sound while driving on traffic, good air flow and great sound on track also, it might give Nik a new electric gizmo to work with biggrin.

The front lights: in photos of rallying mini`s there are two or more extra chrome lights, this does not really make the car go faster but from point of view it looks like faster.

Giving any more electronic gizmo's to Nik to think about is a recipe for even more delays!

It's still a mini chassis, a heavily modified mini chassis but there you go, it'll be subjected to the same MOT requirements the mini has, which shouldn't be a problem?

@MiniCook,

You should take a look at the Topic: "DVLA and getting it back on the road legally." it's under Project Binky last post was Feb 16th. I posted some links re: MOT, IVA, & DVLA. I think they are in some pretty deep yogurt here. But, the lads are very clever, and I'm eager to see what they come up with. Regards, Brian

p.s. Here is a link to the full MOT Manual (cars fall under Class 4).

If you're still having a problem getting your MOT tags, may I suggest bringing it to the US and A? Down here in Georgia almost anything can get its tag and is OK to be driven as long as it has a single red tail-lamp. If you can't register it here as an automobile, you can always tag it as a farm implement.
