Fastest Mini? So what does Binky have to beat?‏

First off loving the build!

anyway...

The goal is to create one of the fastest Mini’s on the planet

Ok for something to be the fastest it needs to be quantified - fastest at what?

Are we just talking Minis with MOTs?

Then what?

Fastest 0-60? (IMHO a useless and out dated test)

Fastest 1/4 mile? (better performace measure of acceleration/ traction)

Fastest TopGear track lap? (handling)

Fastest Nurburgring lap? (a benchmark standard)

Fastest to have a cool interior on a hot summers day due to the standard air conditioning?

So with that in mind what's currently out there and will Binky compete?

After a quick Google I'll start the ball rolling with...

Stuart Meads 9.odd (9.62?) quarter with a spend of nearly £100,000 not found anything recent about this one though other than a Metro news (2012) story that just says it'll do 0-60 in less than 2 sec

Stuart's Mini is certainly a very high benchmark to aim for. Might be a bit out of our league as the budget is tiny.

At least have a go, but i'm pretty sure the additional traction and power will help you round a track or rally stage.

I think you've got the "Fastest Mini built by two blokes also making a video about it, and inspiring people around the world to try fabricating their own thingos (and negative jig thingies) and developing a cult following in the process" title firmly in the bag.

Fast is not so simple. Going fast in a straight line on dry asphalt in the middle of the day is much easier than going fast while dodging trees on a wet and dark dirt road.

It looks like Mighty Car Mods have heard that you can make a mighty mini, very different take than BOM. www.youtube.com/watch

Been watching avidly and waiting for it to run. Keep going guys.

I'm a bit late to the party here, but if we are talking about potential performance there's a car here in New Zealand that is roughly the same idea. It is a Hillman Imp with a turbo Subaru engine in it. The guy running the car is Reece Killingback, he hasn't done it for a few years (see http://www.baydriver.co.nz/news/bd_94-sting-imps-tail.html)
It used to run in one of the racing series here - it is basically an "all comers" class. Here is a shot at Hampton Downs - it is the little blue car in the middle - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_6Lcj1SZM8. The blue and yellow car it is chasing mid way through the video is a V8 Ford Falcon touring car. Have you ever seen a V8 muscle car passed by a Hillman Imp on a racetrack? That is roughly what the performance of Project Binky is going to be like.
