Brake Servo

The Celica had power assisted brakes, I assume the Mini did not. Question is, will the transplanted Celica brakes work well enough without power assist, or are there plans to mount a remote servo unit or two? I was thinking at minimum boost the front brake circuit, but given it has rear disks they may want to boost the rear as well, two servos.

It's all about pedal ratio. Prefer not to have to use one, non-servo assisted brakes have more feel, but we may end up changing our mind.

Thanks, I hadn't considered that.

also proper sizing of the m/cylinder also affects brake application pressures negating the need for assisted application...plus better modulation and brake feel

Agreed, for a track car that is the best. But, as I understood, this will be a "daily driver" for Nik and he did add power windows and locks! So I assumed power assist on the brakes might also be desired, especially for long stop-n-go commutes. Less fatiguing.

I drive in Los Angeles traffic, 1h15m to 1h45m to go 21 miles. 1993 Volvo 854glt/5spd, cramps in BOTH calves are not unheard of. I can't imagine doing it without power assist.

Hour and a half for 21 miles!!! Whoah nelly that is mad; my commute takes the same amount of time but it's 90 miles - I can never complain about the traffic in the M1 again!

I think Nick wants to go for the cylinder that came with the pedals to allow for a little more feel, it is certainly going to be interesting to see if decisions have to be changed because of problems pushing that stop pedal

Yup! On a REALLY good day I can do it in 45m. I'm a mechanic in Santa Monica, California. Most of the cars I work on keep track of average speed in the trip computer, I usually see 18 to 21mph average speed.

Didn't Nik order the pedal set with the master based on wheel cylinder DIA, HP, and estimated vehicle weight?

I think he did yes - that particular pedal box was recommended to them so it must surely be "about right" or as we say in Yorkshire "be reet"... actually I don't know anyone in Yorkshire who says that, but it is the way we are supposed to speak up here in the north... I digress, I reckon the pedal box hydraulics will be spot on given the amount of planning that has already gone into this little project.

You could get there just as fast on a bicycle, and save time on going to the gym.
