My bad obsession is the Nissan Z car, specifically the unloved, often mocked, red-headed stepchild of the Nissan Z family, the 84-89 Z31.
#1 1984 Z31 Turbo GLL. I purchased this in 1995 from the 2nd owner and it's been a daily driver (mostly) since.
Datsun-Nisssan show in 2014
Performance mods are conservative:
T3/4 hybrid Turbo
3" exhaust
3" intake with cone filter
port matched intake/exhaust
Greddy Profec-b boost controller
Electric fan
Intercooler was removed for an upgrade that is still in the box.
Purchased some parts to install in the spring (hopefully)
VLSD differential
aluminum driveshaft
aluminum flywheel
performance clutch
Z32 brakes
full poly bushing kit
Tokico 5 way adjustable suspension
and other stuff i've forgotten.
#2 is an 1984 Turbo Anniversary Edition i purchased in 2009. 1 of 5000 produced
Performance mods are uh, stalled. This has a fair amount of rust and has rear quarter damage. It smoked really bad when i brought it home.
From This:
To This:
It's in storage until i get #3 on the road. I started a wire tuck of the factory engine harness, and lost interest about 90% completed.
#3 is a 1988 Turbo Shiro Edition #683 in a limited production of 1002. It spent a few years as a topiary centerpiece in a overgrown backyard before i bought it in 2009.
This is also in storage until #4 is on the road. It also has rear quarter damage and had a blown motor from an 86 turbo that was dodgy af.
It has a 91 VG30 and turbo on deck for installation. It has factory CLSD and stiffer anti sway bars.
Oil capacity is 4.25 quarts, i drained 3 times that amount from the blown motor.
Just gotta install this with some duct tape.
As of 2013, in storage.
#4 is a 1988 Turbo Shiro Edition #820 in a limited production of 1002.
I wasn't looking for another project when this was found under a tarp covered in mildew, but for the price i couldn't pass it up.
It started with a new battery, but smoked like a really smokey thing, so the motor came out, went back in, still smoked, came back out, went back in, now it's not smoking.
Motor went back in:
After few choruses of the Hokey Pokey, rings, bearings, cylinder hone and tears, it went back in again:
It is currently running and i'm finishing up a few things before i can drive it.
OK, I'll admit my eyes aren't what they used to be. But 1st post, 3rd photo down. What the frell is holding up the black one in the street with the wheels off?!

I used photoshop to remove the jackstands.
Props to your PS skills! I zoomed in and still couldn't tell!
