Having built and rallied four minis from age 17 to 30 something, and modifying many mini heaters to get better window demisting whilst rallying and trying to get better wipers too, I am hoping that Nik and Richard have done their usual great job of improving what they touch when it comes to Binkys heater and wipers. Partly because of their inspiration and skills so well put and shown on the project Binky episodes I have just restarted building my mini body shell to house my dry sumped 1500 8 port A series. A friend and I started building the shell in 1990 for a year, then a lay off till 2008 when I widened the track by 4 " with coils all round. My project has stood still since then, but Nik and Richards build has woken my interest, especially as their wheel base is about 4" wider too, shame I have already done my arches as I too couldn't find any pretty ones off the shelf.
I hope they don't mind but I am going to copy their jig as haveing a level datum point seems to help make their project so much more sensible to work with and I am redesigning my front end. After watching I can't believe that in my twenties I build a spaceframe mini and I don't think I even used a spirit level, just a level bench to weld on.
When I used to modify my heaters years ago, many people laughed at the time and effort put in visiting scrapyards for heater matrixs and fans to modify, but if you can't see if your windows misted up, which minis were prone to, made sense to me as I wanted to be competitive and I hope Nik will save me some grief with his own design. If anyone has any good suggestions for effective mini heaters and wipers I will be pleased to see.
