Here is my current ongoing build for my tow car to haul my fiat around
I picked the car up pretty much bare, not much of an interior no engine, box or brakes etc, it was however a twin turbo manual before i got my hands on it
i had to give the wheels back as they where worth more then i paid for the car itself
the night i picked it up, brian and his trusty (now dead
stripping the interior out ready for a half cage and removing all this unnecessary sound proofing, can see the omp wheel and seats ive obtained for the supra too
one of my least enjoyable tasks, removing bitumin based sound proofing slabs
simply the ice kept my drink cold and just made everything else wet
this is would be the level of interior and comfort i enjoy and deserve, also note location change
big band saws, press brakes, cnc machines, powdercoating/wet painting and sheet metal punch machines along with every welder and grinder you could even need, what could possibly go wrong
This is mu friend scott, scott is an enabler, he generally says yes to any bad idea i have, there needs to be more scotts out there
bent up some seat bases
all this space for activities, blurry ikr
exo ? nah
main hoop and race, can see a failed tube there
some 3mm chassis spreader plates made up for the front engine mounts
welded in

car now back at my work ,dropped the rear subframe off for a clean and paint, upper arms where poly bushed (bonus)
the arms left on the subframe where seized into the camber bolts so ended up burning them off and bought some after market arms
i do like a nice Schultz finish, less so when im covered in it
subframe and various arms painted, supra parts enough to make your eyes water
tatty looking items to be replaced later on, handbrake cables where expensive and hard to obtain
test fit of recon'd rear calipers and discs so i could test fit my temporary wheel to replace my other temporary wheels
hammerite smooth, simply lovleh
poly bushed 2nd diff mount, aftermarket rose joined front control arms, a welded shaft, im gonna have to change this
new handbrake cables shoes, fitting kit etc
calipers painted black with new braided Hel lines, car theme is black on black
similar thing to the front, new discs and pads braided lines, subframe remove stripped cleaned inspected greased and re assembled
bad pic as i had to block certain background items out, but a factory 250hp 6btaa with less then 600 hours on her
Custom orderedextreme offset wheels, took 4 months to turn up, when they turned up they where damaged and hanging out of the boxes (now over 6 months later) still not sorted and i would assume never will be
After the wheel fek up issue the build idea went downhill very fast but also came to a brilliant idea, will upload more later on tomorrow as the attached file uploader isnt too happy
bit of tube notching by hand, not too bad but not as good as others
first glimps of the general idea, no tape measure used and bent it up by hand using the good old metal gate outside, later it had netting hoops mesh base and light bar mounts added
urmmm, 32inch rear tyres and 30 inch fronts, rear wheels where too big to fit even the standard arch, i did cut more out too
ii can also hear you asking who is this handsome person in the picture, that would be me
rear panels cut out more, i have also had to sand all the old blue paint off as it was such a poor job it was flaking off with a razor blade in places (whole roof and some on doors)
cheap front bumper, i cut the bottom half of it off under the line
bumper sanded and lights test fitted
test fit of spats, i have seem to of lost all pictures showing how i tubbed the rear arch from inner skin to outer
small pic, workshop snow flatting out the arches
another small pic, like i said all blue has to come off mostly by hand in these confined areas
more sanding, can see front bumper cut and roof rack powdercoated
test fit of disco 3 arches because why not
prep prep prep
isolator
2k high build, more flatting in 240 then 800 and 1200 followed
the new color matt black
prep, mirror holes welded and filled more prep, wiper, washer and badge holes welded and filled
door finished
parts going back on all trim bits clips and tabs take an age to put back on properly after taking them all off for painting
twin light bars, replaced mount bolts with stainless set and tinted both to a much darker pretty much black tint
crashbar/towbar painted, made out of 5mm box to a 10mm drop plate laser cut and bent up no the press brake with 5mm twist tabs, bolts to the chassis with 2 m8 nuts 6 m8 bolts along with 1 m10 an 1 m12 bolt, should be ok for a while
wired up an anderson connector that sits under the number plate (will flip up) so i can use jump cables with ease
back end assembled, rear lights tinted, can see the anderson connector also tow hitched spaced out 60mm with a solid block
engine bay prepped and painted, i havent cut the bulkhead yet as engine hasnt arrived (should be in next 2 weeks) so going backwards about this
new 12v starter motor (originally 24v) new arp flywheel bolts and new pressure plate bolts, new genuine hx40w turbo was going to be used on the rovaru (stalled project) but i a perfect turbo for this engine
new clutch rated for 500hp and 800ft lbs
new flywheel too, hand for scale, friction plate is 14" in dia
This is pretty much where i am upto currently, engine has had the head whipped off for inspection came back all clear so been re assembled and gotta pay the man had the last part of it and get it dropped down
Love it no matter what. (It's not my car, but still on board.) Can I make a suggestion though. Go full zombie attack mode. Steel bars and spikes everywhere. Your already rolling coal...
put the fiat to work to finally collect the engine
got back no issues abit interesting tho
put the engine in the compound for a little while but you get an idea of the size
one hell of a good looking fell in that photo i must say
all very technical
Put a new reverse mount oil pickuptube and gasket on along with a new sump gasket and rear crank oil seal
followeed by the bellhosuing,New flywheel, clutch, spigot bearing all bolts and fabricobbled some dowel pins and put it all on the engine
getting there, can see partly the gearbox has been "shaved" of the massive mounting brackets
did several small trims
hmm, front section of slam panel was unpicked too for ease of assembly
in on 2 mounts there
slight issue with the bonnet, slight rethink needed
middle engine mount pictures, ones on the block are laser cut others by hand
bit of hot snot holding it together, 5mm plate and ive still got to plate the rear gap in with some 3mm
t'ither side
ohh she looks mean, but as you can see its much lower with the engine in there, got to do alot of measurements for custom springs (was expecting this anyway)
2" lumps of billet aluminium, not even a fancy bodge but it will work
with a 2" body lift, ive gone for a 2.5" suspension lift to go with it to even it out, front shocker lowe bracket there, as it doesnt it on a flat worked out extra height needed and how far back to set the upper bolt hole back, all done on a white board with a a rule and marker pen
as i dont have the massive press brake at this place just measure up and cut it out of box for pre bent profile, 2 of 1 and the other ones take into account the 5mm offset and height difference being sat ontop of each other
using alloy offut to space them out luckly there 2" gap across the shocker
Not the prettiest out there but its not coming apart ever
cooled down a tad
on the shocker here with out the blocks in the subframe so it looks all out of place
same on the rear, possibly the dodgiest thing ive done to date, 2.5" lift again, original shocker tabs angled in and new ones with a slight counter bend to keep the spacing the space, welded inside and then capped outside
The shocker is a gas one so used did the weld it and dunk in water and wet cloth around the base to reduce heat travel
before any lift
only the front lifted
front and rear lifted
random picture showing bay with engine in place after the lift (also lowers engine in he bay for bonnet clearance) waiting on a new manifold to turn up still on a 1 month back other from the states
got to tunnel all this in, trying to source the smaller air assist slave cylinder setup as i have the bigger one that takes up too much room (in passenger footwell)
Abit of an update on this, il use the excuse of bad weather and lack of being arsed as an excuse
space upfront is abit of a premium and i dont want an overly cluttered look but here are a few pictures of a HELLA UP32 vacuum pump which runs off 12v and is upto the task of running the brake vacuum system with no engine input at all
not exactly the prettiest but bit of paint and will be reet
pump with hose to a cross piece with a gauge on the top so i can adjust the level of vacuum i want via the switch at the bottom and then goes off to the servo with a check valve, i might run a vacuum manifold so the pump doesnt have to kick in and out for a few presses
I am currently undecided between turbo out of the bonnet abit (leaning this way) for intimidation points
or going full on soft mode hidden awy
few random tunnel pics, will have to cut access holes and other items there
bonnets current level of closing
plenty of space on the nose for cooling, 100mm tank and 70mm core on rad and 100mm intercooler core
supra prop vs daf prop
in out in out to test fit for space and all sorts
a job id been putting off rear subframe front lift kit spacers and locators
as im running an air tank and more than likely air ride for extra lift pair of airmaxxx 580s viair import these and rebrand them to viair 485c gen2s and double the price
zafira powersteering pump tucked away, would of liked it on the other side for shorter piping but no space starting to get it into place with recycled bracket
cars taking that long and being stored in the elements some bits not looking too nice already but meh
front engine mounts again not the prettiest but V groove and slap the power up, i did put too much heat into them which il have to sort
got to add these together and abit etra flip the rear pivot over to get a gearstick that isnt like a old minis magic wand
pair of 019 battery trays out of 3mm perfect fit and welded in where the rear seats would be, can see clearly made by scott
I did do a test fire of the engine to make sure it ran ok and has good oil pressure luckily it does, now im almost at the point of removing it all again to weld the underside of the tunnel do abit more and then some more and put it back in with a new gearbox etc
