I notice that none of us predicted that Ep 37 would be mostly about brakes.
Any predictions for the theme of Episode 38?
I figure that we haven't yet got to driving (which is what happened at or shortly before Weston Park) so it may just take us up to there. I'm hoping for a bit more interior. Must be time to see the carbon fibre coming to the party.
Speaking of carbon fibre, a couple of episodes ago I sort of expected the wheel arch extensions to be made of carbon fibre using the original fiberglassed items. Then much to my surprise the arches were 3D printed by a fellow youtuber.
And yes, the brakes were unexpected and stunning at the same time.
I expect more interior goodness to take shape. Rich and Nik did a collaboration with the guys at Retropower for the interior trim. Excited to see the outcome. Other than that I don't know what more we can expect. Or when. 😁
I wonder if they're suffering from a little "Builder's Block"? It's all been very quiet since Episode 37 with not a great deal on Twitter other than Rich's twin's flat-pack furniture fest and some pictures of cars he'd like in his collection. It's understandable if this is the case but the end really does seem to be in sight - even if "the last 20% takes 80% of the effort".
I bumped into Gordon Murray in a pub once and (after generally embarrassing myself being a complete girlie fan in a fainting fit) got to talking about the F1 book. He said that it felt like as much effort to produce this as the car itself and if he'd known that at the start there probably would have been no book. Perhaps the same is true of the Binky videos. The original idea was to document what they were doing (so the original parts could go back on in the right order no doubt) but it's turned into this great big YouTube/Facebook/Twitter/Instagram monster with complete strangers (like me) incessantly baying for more content. I know I'd certainly not want to pick up a video camera again if it was (/were?) me.
If you're reading this Nik/Rich then "sorry". Perhaps a nice long session on the Escargot's axles will give a major mojo boost? :D
After a very long process of trial and error, adaptations (a rotary 4th axis) to the milling machine, a full rebuild of the lathe and dozens of design iterations, we have finally cracked the recipe for Binky's instrument cluster and switch pack. The last of the big hurdles. Of course, the irony is that providing it comes off like we intend, you won't notice at first glance. It'll look just like a nice three clock mini dash with the extra three 52mm gauges above the radio. Behind it though will be months of work. We need locking up don't we?

Meanwhile the lads are still working on Ep 38. They have discovered the joys of Arduino, C++ programming and fixed (modified more like) the 3D printer. These gauges are going to be quite something.
And yes, a little Escargo wouldn't go amiss. 😁
