Episode 40: "We upgraded the injectors from stock but upgraded the upgrades, in this episode we replace the upgraded upgrades with a new & improved modern upgrade!" "Also, coming up, the stock ECU we upgraded with a Link upgrade and then upgraded it, will get the latest upgrade from Link!" "Remember the turbo we upgraded? Well guess what?!? That is now old technology and we'll be plumbing in an upgrade!"
Ha ha! 🤣 You're not wrong, but that does sound like the contents of episodes 60 to 90. There is also the small matter of the IVA(?) to be navigated. I wonder if we'll ever get back to Binky's transporter? That must be liberally coated in surface rust by now...
Ha! I'm sure it has the original VIN plate in there somewhere, but I fear that it may be deemed to have had some reasonably substantial modification work conducted on it since it was last MOT tested.
I take your point though. Mostly, Binky has had some worn-out, rusty components replaced with new ones, along with a bit of fettling here and there to make the new bits fit.
Incidentally, other than the glass and indicator lights (+ tyre valve caps?), can you think of any original Leyland part that would still bolt in?
😁. I'm sure replacing a hard disk/SSD in an evening is within Richard's skill set. If he's not busy ranting about how much Rachel Reeves has upset him today that is. Or maybe re-engineering said HDD with an internal combustion engine...

Yes we're going to finish the Mini - we got to finish Mini. it's January it's nearly finished. We've only got a few things to do. The the instruments are nearly there. We've rebuilt the mill because the mill screwed itself up which which stopped us machining the last few bits. That is now on ball screws that wasn't an easy job to change from lead screws to ball screws. So yeah so we're ready to machine all the bits and pieces for that so that the interface will be done and you be able to see it and then we can put it in and then we can just we can move on with our lives

It looks like I didn't miss a great deal while I was away shooting tigers, does it?
Seemingly not. I'm sure they used to build fancy Minis around these parts back in the old days. I wonder what they're stuck on?

Remarkable, I never imagined I'd make it to 50 but here we are. I'd like to spend the day building my new Lego FW14B Mansell edition, but instead I'll be editing.
I assume that means he is editing the next Binky episode ...
The man has good taste though, I've just finished the Lego FW14B myself. Hmmm... probably time I dragged out the laptop and finished my project as well then
Again, rumours of our demise have been greatly exaggerated. Episode 40 is live now for our wonderful, long suffering patrons and will be published for everyone on Tuesday evening!

So if you've ever actually wondered why those plug-and-play digital dashboards like the link are so expensive. Well now, you know it's because they're worth it. It's just a shame you can't get them looking like this exactly and whilst I might have taken a few liberties along the way, like you know upscaling the 80 mil gauges to the OEM size, making sure all the typefaces match across all of the gauges, adding some 1990s chic idiot lights, because well ... reasons, making the mechanical bits actually work, not to mention getting the matching set of bezels to match. It could be argued that we've spent the best part of 2 years monkeying around with this to end up with something that to the casual observer and in the light looks exactly like what we started, with and that's great cuz that's exactly what we wanted.
You just have to admire their (Nick's) incredible levels of attention to detail Not what most would consider a "car build" episode but it was always a series to show the full build and not just "YouTube ready" in a "YouTube timescale" I'm up for this and looking forward to the next episode!

Enjoyed that episode as much as any that have gone before.
I didn't clock which material they were 3D printing in. I've found PLA to be inappropriate for car interior bits & bobs as it literally wilts in the heat. ABS should work though.
Wasn't clear if that circuit board will be installed when trimmed to size or if it serves as a final prototype for something more conventionally printed. I assume the latter and that it will be replaced after shakedown testing. Something for Episode 44 perhaps.
Yeah I think they mentioned last time that the board is just for "rapid" prototyping, and that once the design is completely finalized they will make something more permanent.
There are definitely places to outsource that to, the likes of PCBWay etc etc, but something tells me they'll probably make their own. Maybe using the same copper coated stuff they used for the guages?
