NEED HELP GUYS!! (Mazda 3 1.6 turbo diesel)

So my dad bought a 2008 Mazda 3 Takara 1.6 Turbo diesel last year and its been a great car up until recently.

It has started to die randomly when your driving it, regardless of engine RPM or car speed and some times it doesnt want to start either.

Thought it could have been bad diesel so had the whole fuel system looked and was told it was fine.

Its been in and out of the mechanic's multiple times but the problem is still there. I drove it today (16/11/2016) and noticed that when it dies it feels like the ECU is turning the injectors or throttle off.

When this happened i would keep the car in gear and quickly turn the ignition key off one turn and back again and it would start to drive normally again making me think that it is the ECU and not just the car being starved of fuel.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this? Theres a wealth of knowledge on this forum thanks to you guys so I thought i would post this here in case someone knows something.

Thanks in advance

Mac

ok first thing I would do is see if there are any recorded fault codes ( plug code reader into port ( I don't know where it is on a mazda but look under the dash for a long socket ) if no codes leave it plugged in and go for a drive with live data for fuel system on and throttle position airflow ) also does the car have cat fitted .

I hope this helps

thanks for the advice guys unfortunately I dont have the diagnostic program for a mazda. (I migt just torrent it for the purpose of fixing the car.) I will be taking the MAS off and making sure that its cleaned before i do anything.
